Alexis Genung

   My purpose as an artist is to create beauty and bring a measure of peace to an often troubled world.  I want my images to bring out the happiness and goodness  which I firmly believe exist in each and every person, no matter the circumstances.

   I like the idea of reminding a person of pleasurable moments of the past, or inspiring him or her to create new ones in the future.
   If we, the viewer and I, can accomplish this together, I feel there is hope for our world.

Alexis Scandalis Genung

Alexis Scandalis Genung is an American artist of Greek heritage.  Born in Sacramento, California, she has traveled and studied in the United States, Europe, North Africa, and Asia.  Her extensive travel in many beautiful countries has greatly influenced her artistic viewpoint and style, augmenting her formal education at the University of California at Davis and California State University at Sacramento.

Genung paints in both watercolor and oil, portraying landscapes, florals and figures.   She has a special affinity for scenes of her ancestral Greece, communicating the serenity of that ancient land with a unique, uplifting quality.

Genung is co-founder of the Hellenic International Artists Foundation, founded in 1993 to promote Hellenic culture and artists of Hellenic descent through the arts.   The Foundation has been particularly active in organizing and participating in Greek-American fund-raising events for the communities of Northern California, especially the last two exhibitions benefiting the Center for Modern Greek Studies at California State University at San Francisco.

Genung now makes her home and studio in Fair Oaks, California, where she lives with her husband Michael, and two studio cats, Emma and Kinky.
